Indications for use (instruction): OneTouch Select Test Strips
OneTouch® Select® Test Strips are designed for self-measurement of blood glucose with the OneTouch Select® and OneTouch SelectSimple® meters.
OneTouch® Select® Test Strips Features:
- Test principle: electrochemistry.
- Plasma calibration.
- Dual Accuracy Control – Two working electrodes per OneTouch Select® Test Strip.
- Measuring range: 1.1-33.3 mmol/l.
- Test time: 5 seconds.
- Blood sample – 1.5 μL.
- Capillary filling – the test strip draws blood by itself.
- All OneTouch Select® test strips are coded 25.
- Protected test strip – can be touched wherever you want.
- High specificity for glucose – the enzyme glucosooxidase, specific for D-glucose and does not react with other sugars that may be present in the blood.
- The hematocrit level is 30-55%. Hematocrit is the percentage of red blood cells in the blood. Deviations in hematocrit from the reference range may affect test results. Blood glucose measurements may be overestimated if hematocrit is less than 30%, and if hematocrit is greater than 55%, measurements may be underestimated. If you are unsure of your hematocrit level, check with your doctor.
- Application temperature: 6°С–44°С, relative humidity 10%– 90%.
- OneTouch Select® Test Strips can be used up to 10,000 feet (3048 meters) without affecting test results.
Appointment
The OneTouch Select® test strips are designed for use with the OneTouch Select® and OneTouch SelectSimple® meters for quantitative measurement of glucose in fresh capillary whole blood. OneTouch Select® Test Strips and Meter are designed to self-monitor blood glucose levels outside the body (for in vitro diagnostics). They can be used at home by people suffering from diabetes mellitus, as well as by doctors to examine patients in the clinic to monitor the effectiveness of diabetes mellitus treatment. OneTouch Select® Test Strips and Meter are designed to analyze blood from your fingertip.
Be sure to adhere to the rules of use and storage conditions.
How to use
Obtaining a blood sample
NOTE. Review your user manual for detailed instructions on preparing the lancing device and obtaining a blood sample for analysis. To get a drop of blood, you need to do the following:
Step 1. Select the puncture site.
You can take a drop of blood from your fingertip. Wash your hands and puncture site thoroughly with warm water and soap. Dry your hands thoroughly.
Step 2. Make a puncture.
Squeeze out a drop of blood. DO NOT squeeze the puncture site too tightly.
Determination of blood glucose
NOTE. For instructions on how to test, such as collecting a drop of blood and coding your meter (for certain models), see the user guide that came with your meter.
Step 1. Insert the test strip.
Remove the test strip from the vial and close the cap immediately.
Insert the test strip into the meter in the test strip insertion point, holding the test strip with the three contact strips in front of you and the arrow pointing down.
Make sure the test strip is inserted all the way. The meter turns on automatically.
Your OneTouch Select® meter requires coding. Make sure the codes on the meter and test strips match.
The OneTouch SelectSimple® meter does not require coding.
Use only OneTouch Select® test strips with the same Code 25 with the OneTouch SelectSimple® meter.
Step 2. Apply blood sample.
When the blood drop symbol flashes on the display, bring the meter and test strip along the narrow channel at the top of the test strip to the edge of the blood drop.
Hold the top edge of the test strip against the drop of blood until the confirmation window is full.
- DO NOT apply blood to the test strip from the top.
- DO NOT move the test strip in the meter while testing.
- DO NOT press the test strip very tightly to the puncture site (up to the tip of your finger).
- DO NOT use a smeared drop of blood.
If the confirmation window does not fill completely with blood before the meter starts to count down, DO NOT apply more blood to this test strip; discard it and retest with a new test strip.
If the confirmation window does not fill completely, an error message may appear or you may receive an inaccurate test result.
In case of problems with filling the test strip with blood, call the LifeScan Advisory Line by phone: 0 800 500 353 (free from a landline phone), Mon-Fri, 09:00-18:00.
Step 3. Get an accurate analysis result in 5 seconds.
The blood glucose result appears on the display after the meter counts down from 5 to 1.
ATTENTION! Make sure the correct unit is mmol/l. If the unit of measure is incorrect, call the LifeScan Advisory Line at 0 800 500 353 (free from a landline phone), Mon-Fri, 09:00-18:00.
Test results
OneTouch Select® and OneTouch SelectSimple® blood glucose meters show results from 1.1 to 33.3 mmol/l.
If the test result is lower than 1.1 mmol/l, a low blood glucose warning or error message appears. This may indicate severe hypoglycemia (low blood glucose). It is necessary to immediately take the measures recommended by the attending physician. While this message may be due to an erroneous test result, it is safer to take treatment first and then test again.
If the test result is higher than 33.3 mmol/l, a high blood glucose warning or error message will appear. This may indicate severe hyperglycemia (high blood glucose). Retest your blood glucose. If the warning appears again, contact your doctor immediately.
Procedure limitations
Test results using OneTouch Select® test strips will be accurate under the following limitations.
- DO NOT use the meter to diagnose diabetes mellitus or screen newborns.
- Test strips are for single use only. DO NOT use the same test strip twice.
- These test strips are specific for the determination of D-glucose and do not react with other sugars that may be present in the blood.
- Use only fresh capillary whole blood. DO NOT use serum or plasma.
Release form
1 package – 2 bottles of 25 test strips each.
Storage conditions
- Store test strips in a cool dry place at a temperature (t) of 4°C to 30°C and a relative humidity of up to 65%. DO NOT store test strips in the refrigerator. Protect from direct sunlight and heat. The influence of temperature (t) and humidity, the values of which are outside the recommended storage, can cause inaccurate analysis results.
- The test strip test should be performed at a temperature (t) of 10°C to 44°C.
- Store test strips only in their original vial. To avoid damage or contamination, DO NOT put test strips in any other container.
- DO NOT open the test strip vial until you are ready to test.
- After removing the OneTouch Select® test strip from the vial, immediately close the cap tightly.
- Use the test strip as soon as you remove it from the vial.
- DO NOT use test strips from a vial that has been damaged or has been opened.
- After opening a new vial of test strips, record the disposal date on the label. A new bottle can be used up to six months after first opening.
- DO NOT use test strips after the expiration date (printed on the label) or after the disposal date, whichever comes first, as this may result in inaccurate results.
- Avoid contact of the test strips with dirt, food, or liquids. You can only touch anywhere on the surface of the test strip with clean, dry hands.
- DO NOT bend, cut, or deform OneTouch Select® Test Strips.
- OneTouch Select® Test Strips are for single use only. Never reuse a test strip that has already had blood or control solution applied.
- Make sure the meter and test strips are at approximately the same temperature (t) before testing.
- Only OneTouch Select® control solution or blood sample (s) can be applied to the test strip.
- After testing, DO NOT put the used test strip back in the vial.
- Used test strips may be considered biohazardous waste in your area. Follow the advice of healthcare professionals and local legal requirements for proper disposal of such items.
ATTENTION! Store the test strip vial out of the reach of children. Swallowing the test strip may present a risk of airway blockage or suffocation. Do not swallow test strips.
The test strip vial may contain a desiccant that is harmful if inhaled or swallowed, and may irritate the skin or eyes. Do not swallow any of the components in the kit.
